The senior section on the other hand has nine ranks which are called “dan”, also known as ‘black belts” or “degrees”. In essence, the black belt begins at the first degree and ultimately advances to the tenth degree, with distinction of degrees usually found on the belt with a stripe or certain characters. The promotion of one rank to the next level varies from school to school. The process for promotion typically involves execution of various techniques and moves with specific sequences, sparring and Self Defense moves. The significance of the black belt will highly depend on a particular training school and does not entirely indicate being an expert or master of any particular martial art.Whatever discipline you choose among the many martial arts styles, acquiring a black belt status would require a high level of commitment, dedication and training.
